Donation FAQs

Are donations to Good Ancestors Policy tax deductible in Australia?

No. Under Australian tax law, donations to charities tackling existential risks, protecting future generations, or improving wellbeing are not able to be claimed as deductions. This is something we are hoping will change. In the meantime, one option is to reduce the amount you would donate by the amount you would be eligible to claim as a deduction. This allows you to support high-impact charities without being worse off yourself.

Donors overseas have supported us through charities in the US and UK that can make grants to eligible overseas organisations and issue a local tax receipt. See giving from outside Australia below.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Credit or debit card - You can donate using Visa, MasterCard, American Express (Amex), Discover Card, JCB, Diners Club and Union Pay. You can donate using a credit or debit card via this form. You will automatically receive a receipt via email when donating via card.

Bank Transfer - You can donate via bank transfer using this form, in Australian dollars (AUD), US dollars (USD), euros (EUR) or pounds sterling (GBP). The form gives you a unique reference code — include it in your transfer so we can match your donation. Please note you will need to manually request a receipt (if needed) for bank transfers, and that donations are not tax deductible for the reasons above.

What processing fees are involved in a donation transaction to Good Ancestors?

Card fees:

  • 1.4% + $0.30 (non-Amex transactions)
  • 1.75% + $0.30 for Amex transactions
  • 2.9% + $0.30 for international transactions (Wallets included)

Bank fees (BECS Direct Debit):

  • 1% + $0.30 (capped at $3.50 per transaction)

Can I donate from outside Australia?

Yes. Supporters around the world fund our work. You can give in three ways:

  • Card from any country — our secure checkout accepts international cards, charged in Australian dollars (AUD).
  • Bank transfer in AUD, USD, EUR or GBP — pledge through the donation form and transfer using the reference code we provide.
  • Give with an overseas tax receipt — some US and UK donors can give through a charity that issues a local tax receipt and grants the funds on to us.

For the tax-receipt options and step-by-step instructions, open the donation formand choose “See overseas giving options”.

Can I donate in USD, EUR or GBP?

Yes. We hold bank accounts in US dollars, euros and pounds sterling as well as Australian dollars. Choose “pay by bank transfer” on the donation form, select your currency, and we'll give you a unique reference code to include with your transfer. Domestic (US ACH, SEPA, UK) and international SWIFT transfers are both supported. A bank transfer directly to us isn't tax-deductible outside Australia — for a local tax receipt, choose “See overseas giving options” on the donation form instead.
