Background

Increasing severity and frequency of crises prompted the Department of Home Affairs to launch a discussion paper on the topic of Alternative Commonwealth Capabilities for Crisis Response.

Our Submission

Good Ancestors endorses an evidence-based approach to disaster response as the single best way to safeguard Australians against terrible calamities. We advocated for focus on catastrophes and a national risk-assessment across all hazards. Good Ancestors further proposed a reallocation of disaster readiness funding among other recommendations.
