Policy Officer

Good Ancestors is inviting expressions of interest for a Policy Officer role to help develop evidence-based policy proposals that address critical challenges facing humanity with a particular focus on AI governance.

About Good Ancestors

Good Ancestors is an Australian charity dedicated to improving humanity's long-term future through evidence-based policy advocacy. We work on critical challenges including AI safety, pandemic prevention, catastrophic risk reduction and systemic reform. Our policy recommendations are regularly cited in government documents and we recently provided expert testimony to the Senate Select Committee on Adopting AI.

What you'll do

  • Research and write policy submissions to government consultations

  • Analyse proposed legislation and regulatory frameworks

  • Draft briefing materials and correspondence

  • Support our engagement with policymakers and stakeholders

  • Monitor policy developments across our areas of focus

About you

  • Strong analytical and writing skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to synthesise complex information into clear recommendations

  • Interest in long-term policy challenges, particularly AI governance

  • Relevant background in public policy, law, technology policy, or related fields

  • Commitment to evidence-based policymaking and improving the long-term future

Position details

  • Full-time preferred but part-time and contract arrangements considered

  • Australian remote role with flexible hours

  • Opportunity to shape critical policies during a pivotal time

  • Salary: AUD $80k-$95k (depending on experience)
